UAE certifies the world's first commercial eVTOL vertiport — Joby's Dubai launch hub

The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority certified VDX — a four-storey, ~3,100㎡ vertiport built by Skyports Infrastructure next to Dubai International Airport — as the world's first purpose-built commercial eVTOL vertiport. It features two pads, rapid charging and capacity for about 170,000 passengers a year, and will anchor the Dubai air-taxi network flown by Joby's piloted S4 (pilot plus four passengers). Three additional vertiports are under development with Dubai's RTA.

Why it matters

Aircraft certification gets the headlines, but a service needs certified ground infrastructure too — and that box is now checked for the first time anywhere. For Joby, Dubai keeps compounding as the launch market where every layer (aircraft ops, vertiport, regulator, network plan) matures first; the playbook it is exporting to the French Riviera now has a certified reference site.
