LG Energy to supply batteries for Google's largest solar-storage project

LG Energy Solution will supply batteries for the Steel River Energy Center in Arkansas — the largest solar-and-storage project in Google's global portfolio. The development pairs an initial 1.6GW of solar with about 2GWh of battery storage, expanding to 2.5GW and 2.9GWh by 2029 — enough for 315,000+ homes — with Google buying all output under a long-term virtual PPA to feed its data-center growth. LG supplies its North America-made JF2 DC Link LFP system; the order is estimated at several hundred billion won.

Why it matters

This is the ESS pivot reaching its logical customer: the hyperscaler. LG's storage arc — Honda JV conversion, GM JV LFP lines, the Q2 numbers that forced it — now lands a marquee Google project, with "made in North America" as the differentiator against Chinese LFP under tariff walls.
