Pasqal lands on Nasdaq via SPAC with $360M — Europe's neutral-atom bet goes public
Pasqal completed its merger with Bleichroeder Acquisition Corp. II and began trading on Nasdaq as PSQL on 28 August, jumping as much as 52% in its debut. The deal valued the company around $2B pre-money and delivered roughly $360M in cash for QPU manufacturing, fault-tolerance work and HPC integration.
Pasqal closed its combination with Bleichroeder Acquisition Corp. II after SEC clearance and a shareholder vote, and its ordinary shares began trading on Nasdaq under "PSQL" on 28 August 2026. The transaction valued the company at roughly $2B before new money and delivered about $360M in cash. Shares rose as much as 52% on the first day. Pasqal builds neutral-atom quantum computers — its board is chaired by co-founder Alain Aspect, the 2022 physics Nobel laureate — and counts Saudi Aramco and LG Electronics among its customers. The proceeds are earmarked for expanding QPU manufacturing and global rollout, work toward fault tolerance, its cloud and software platform, tighter integration with classical HPC, and sales.
Why it matters
Neutral atoms have been the modality with the strongest physics story and the thinnest balance sheet. Superconducting qubits have IBM and Google behind them and trapped ions have Quantinuum inside Honeywell; the neutral-atom groups have largely been venture-funded startups selling machines one at a time to national labs. $360M is not a fleet of fabs, but it is the first time a neutral-atom company has capital on a public-market schedule rather than a round-to-round one, and manufacturing is precisely where the approach has to prove itself — the physics scales by adding atoms to an optical trap, which is cheap, and the engineering scales by controlling them, which is not.
The listing route matters less than the reporting obligation. A SPAC debut is not validation of a technology roadmap, and quantum SPACs have a mixed record. What changes is that Pasqal now has to publish revenue, backlog and cash burn against a roadmap it has stated publicly — which puts a European neutral-atom program on the same disclosure footing as the listed quantum names whose commercial claims we have been checking one contract at a time.
What to watch
Pasqal's first reported quarter — QPU deliveries and backlog rather than bookings — and whether the fault-tolerance spending produces a published error-corrected result rather than a roadmap slide.
