Unitree closes its first day up 460% — the first humanoid-robot maker on any public market

Unitree began trading on Shanghai's STAR Market on 19 August, rising as much as ~630% intraday and closing up ~460% at 845 yuan, a valuation near $50B. It is the first humanoid-robot maker to list anywhere — though most of its revenue still comes from quadrupeds and components, and the shares gave back much of the debut gain within days.

Unitree Robotics listed on Shanghai's STAR Market on 19 August 2026 under the code 688836. The stock rose as much as roughly 630% intraday and closed its first session up about 460% at 845 yuan, putting the company's market value near $50B — around seven times the ~$7B private valuation set months before. It is the first humanoid-robot maker to reach a public market anywhere. We flagged the listing as pending two weeks ago, when the queue was still full of pre-debut coverage; it is now in the tracker as achieved. In the sessions that followed, the shares gave back a large share of the debut gain.

Why it matters

The milestone is the listing, not the price. A humanoid maker on a public exchange has to file — revenue by product line, margins, unit shipments, R&D spend — and that is the first time anyone outside the private rounds gets a checkable number for a sector that has run on demo videos and valuation headlines. What those filings will show is that Unitree is not yet a humanoid company: quadrupeds and components still carry the revenue, and the humanoid line is the story being bought rather than the business being sold. That gap between what is priced and what is shipped is exactly what a public listing makes legible, and the post-debut slump suggests the market started reading it within the week.

It also resets the comparison set. Agility's $2.5B SPAC, still unclosed, has been the reference for a US work-humanoid pure-play going public; a $50B debut in Shanghai is a different order of magnitude, on a market with its own retail dynamics, and it will be quoted at every humanoid funding round from here.

What to watch

Unitree's first reported quarter as a listed company — specifically the humanoid share of revenue — and whether Agility's SPAC closes into a market that now has a Chinese comparable trading at ten figures.
