XPeng's robotics unit raises over $900M at $6.3B — China's largest embodied-AI round

XPeng's humanoid robotics business raised more than $900M at a post-money valuation above $6.3B, led by IDG Capital with Gaorong Ventures and strategic participation from Tencent and Alibaba. XPeng says it is the largest single private round in China's embodied-AI sector; the IRON humanoid is slated for mass production by end-2026 and deliveries in 2027.

XPeng announced on 24 August 2026 that its robotics business raised over $900M at a post-money valuation above $6.3B — the unit's first outside round, which XPeng describes as the largest single private financing in China's embodied-AI industry. IDG Capital led, with Gaorong Ventures participating and Tencent and Alibaba entering as strategic investors. The money is directed at mass production and at iterating the company's physical-AI models. XPeng expects the IRON humanoid to enter mass production by the end of 2026, deployed first in its own stores and campuses, with commercial launch and deliveries in China and overseas in 2027.

Why it matters

The structure is the signal: XPeng carved the robotics business out and funded it separately rather than spending carmaker cash on it. That gives IRON its own valuation, its own investors and its own reporting line — and it gives XPeng a way to keep building a humanoid without asking auto shareholders to underwrite it. It is the same move Chinese EV makers used to spin out battery and chip units, and it usually precedes a listing.

The comparison that matters is Unitree's $50B public debut five days earlier. A $6.3B private mark for a humanoid unit that has not shipped a unit commercially looks large until it is set against a listed peer at eight times that, and both numbers are being set by the same expectation: that 2027 is when humanoids start being delivered rather than demonstrated. XPeng's own timeline — own stores first, then customers — is the honest version of that, and it is worth holding the company to the sequence. Deploying into your own retail footprint is a pilot with a friendly customer, not a market.

What to watch

Whether IRON actually enters mass production before end-2026 and what "mass" means in units, whether any 2027 delivery goes to a third party rather than an XPeng site, and whether the unit files for a separate listing.
