Japan's RV-X reusable-rocket testbed flies and lands for the first time
JAXA's RV-X — co-developed with Mitsubishi Heavy — completed its first test flight at Noshiro: an under-a-minute hop to 11m with a 16m lateral translation and upright landing. Next flights target ~100m.
JAXA's Reusable Vehicle eXperiment (RV-X) — a 7.3m, 1.8m-diameter testbed co-developed with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries — flew for the first time at the Noshiro Rocket Testing Center: a sub-minute hop rising 11 meters, translating 16 meters sideways and landing upright on four shock-absorbing legs. Future flights target about 100 meters; the program feeds Japan's reusable-launcher work with France and Germany.
Why it matters
An 11-meter hop is where SpaceX's Grasshopper was in 2012 — the point is that Japan is now on the reusability curve at all, in the same week China recovered an orbital booster. The reuse race has become the price of admission for national launch programs; the gap between a hop and an orbital recovery is the distance Japan now has to close.

The ~100m flight campaign, and whether RV-X lessons flow into a funded orbital-class reusable successor to the H3.
